Soft Washing vs Pressure Washing: What’s the Difference?

Soft washing and pressure washing both clean exterior surfaces, but they solve different problems. The right method depends on the material, the type of buildup, and how much pressure the surface can safely handle.

WHAT WE DO

When to Use Soft Washing and When to Use Pressure

Soft washing relies on cleaning solutions and low pressure to treat algae, mildew and organic growth on siding, roofs and other delicate materials. Pressure washing uses more mechanical force and is better suited to durable surfaces such as concrete. A professional exterior cleaner should choose the method based on the surface—not use the same pressure everywhere.

Quick Guide: Choosing the Right Cleaning Method

Soft washing is generally better for siding, roofs and more delicate exterior materials. Higher-pressure cleaning is better suited to durable surfaces such as concrete. The surface—not a one-size-fits-all approach—should determine the method.

Need help choosing? Prowash Missouri can look at the surface, buildup and condition of the property and recommend the safer cleaning approach.

Common questions

Quick answers about choosing a service and getting an estimate.

Call 833-465-9274

What is soft washing?

Soft washing combines cleaning solutions with low pressure to treat algae, mildew and organic growth on surfaces that should not be blasted with high pressure.

When is pressure washing the better choice?

Pressure washing is commonly used on durable surfaces such as concrete where more mechanical cleaning force is appropriate.

Should siding be pressure washed?

Siding is usually better cleaned with a lower-pressure soft-wash approach instead of aggressive high pressure.

Should a roof ever be cleaned with high pressure?

Roof cleaning should generally use a low-pressure treatment appropriate for the roofing material rather than blasting the surface with high pressure.

Can one property need both methods?

Yes. A home may need soft washing on siding and roof areas while concrete driveways or sidewalks may be cleaned with higher-pressure equipment.

Does soft washing mean no pressure at all?

No. Soft washing still uses controlled pressure, but far less than traditional pressure washing and relies more on the cleaning solution doing the work.

How does Prowash Missouri choose the method?

We match the cleaning method to the surface, condition and type of buildup instead of using the same pressure everywhere.
